Draft Profile: Bio
As a senior at high school EJ Perry led a Golden Warriors’ offense that averaged 42 points per game his senior campaign. He put up 114 career touchdown passes which ranks second in state history. Perry threw for 3,398 yards and 47 touchdowns as a senior. He also added 1,006 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground as he led his team to the Division 1 North sectional final.

He joined Boston College but he didn’t see a lot of playing time - in limited action logged 27 of 39 passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns over two seasons. He transferred to Brown for the 2019 season and impressed.
Perry led the nation in total offense (367.8 yards per game)and set an Ivy League record for Total Offense (3,678 yards). He was the third player in Brown history to lead the team in rushing (730 yards) and passing (2,948 yards).

The Ivy League season was canceled in 2020 but in 2021 Perry produced another first-team All-Ivy performance and received Offensive Player of the Year honors by ranking eighth in the FCS with 303.3 passing yards per game (295-of-444, 66.4%, 23 TDs, 14 INTs; 111-402-3.6, seven TDs rushing) in 10 starts. As a result, he was awarded the Boston Globe's Division 1 Player of the Year.
Perry received East-West Shrine Bowl Offensive MVP honors after posting 241 yards passing and three touchdowns.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Very good athlete at the QB position who put up a 4.65 40 and a 34.5 inch vertical at the combine
  • Dual threat player who is always a threat to break out of the pocket and make big yardage
  • Is not scared to Spray the ball anywhere on the field, especially when given a pocket from which to deliver. Will step up into pocket while looking downfield, reset his feet and deliver.
  • Good accuracy overall, including excellent accuracy on short timing routes.
  • Dual-threat quarterback with athletic footwork and mobility. An instinctive runner with very good toughness - uses stiff arms and runs with good body strength.
  • Gets the ball out quickly, making ·splitsecond decisions. Good short to intermediate level accuracy
  • Gets the ball from one hash to the opposite sideline in a hurry. Has the zip to hit tight windows on short and intermediate throws.
  • Doesn't always look to run - can take time in the pocket to patiently wait for the receiver to break
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Inconsistent downfield passer and puts too much air under his throws.
  • Lacks poise in the pocket and sometimes abandons his reads too quickly. Takes too many chances.and has thrown far too many interceptions
  • Undersized and short in stature - looks diminutive in the huddle.
  • Sails throws to either sideline; receivers make him look good with acrobatic catches. Back-foot throws are not accurate. Sometimes trusts his arm too much, trying to stick passes late in the play or when off-balance.
  • Strong enough arm to make basic throws but has only average overall arm strength.
  • Footwork is undeveloped and his throwing mechanics are poor
  • Has small hands (9 inches) may struggle with an NFL ball
  • A little undersized for the position at 6-2 may struggle to see over pro lines
Scouting Report: Summary
EJ Perry is an excellent athlete at the QB position who possesses very good speed and is a natural escape artist, he, however, has suspect mechanics and poor footwork, only average arm strength and has played at a lower collegiate level in the Ivy League. Given his skillset, Perry will likely be looked at as a late-round pick who could be a backup in an offense that makes extensive use of the RPO game.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
