Nick Emmanwori from Irmo High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Emmanwori opted to join South Carolina.In 2022 as a freshman Emmanwori saw action in 12 games and played a total of 762 snaps at safety for the Gamecocks. He recorded decent 73 tackles, 15 assists, while adding 16 stops. In coverage Emmanwori notched up 2 pass breakups, no interceptions, and an unimpressive QB rating when targetted of 117.7. He added 6 total pressures, and no sacks on the season.
As a sophomore in 2023 he played in 11 games and logged 726 snaps for the Gamecocks. He made decent 60 tackles, 21 assists, and had 17 stops. In coverage he totaled 5 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 79.6.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Aware in the red zone, stays on the back line to take away fade throws. Capable of making quarterbacks pay for late throws.
- Has the violent hands to discard receivers and smaller tight ends, and Emmanwori is a sure tackler. In coverage, he shows good instincts when sitting back in zone, with click-and-close ability and good ball tracking.
- Often asked to drop down and crowd the line, showing good feel for timing the snap and the ability to elude blockers in tight quarters.
- Is an explosive mover with quickness and speed. He’s at his best attacking downhill, shooting gaps in run support, and disrupting the backfield.
- Has very good length and is a fluid mover in the middle of the field. Emmanwori plays with a linebacker’s mentality, attacking downfield and delivering violent hits on ball carriers.
- Has good football awareness to read and react quickly and stay balanced and patient in space.
- Willing in run support, coming downhill quickly when he has a chance to make a play.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- He’ll draw plenty of flags early on with his playing style. Emmanwori is hesitant when facing the action in zone coverage.
- His athleticism gives him the potential to have tremendous range in coverage, but Emmanwori is often hesitant and doesn’t seem confident in what he’s seeing.
- Needs to get stronger. Too easily lost in the trash. Not a sudden athlete and shows body stiffness when attempting to quickly redirect.
