Draft Profile: Bio

Mitchell Evans, hailing from Wadsworth, Ohio, was a multi-sport athlete in high school, excelling in football and basketball. He played quarterback and punter for Wadsworth High School before transitioning to tight end. His senior year performance earned him First Team All-State honors from the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association. Evans comes from an athletic family; his father played football at Penn and Kent State, his mother played volleyball at Akron, and his sister, Kacie, was an All-SEC volleyball player at Georgia.

Evans joined Notre Dame as a three-star recruit. As a freshman in 2021, he played all 13 games, recording 2 receptions for 21 yards. In 2022, despite an early season injury, he played seven games, scoring a rushing touchdown and catching a game-winning touchdown in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. His junior season in 2023 saw him emerge as a key offensive player, with 29 receptions for 422 yards and a touchdown across eight games, before a torn ACL ended his season prematurely.

Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Displays good effort as a blocker at the point of attack and at the second level.
  • Shows a good understanding of coverages, consistently finding soft spots in zone defense.
  • Reliable hands with a sizable catch radius, capable of hauling in passes away from his frame.
  • High-level concentration, making tough catches in tight windows and through contact.
  • Effective in contested-catch situations, using his frame to outmuscle defenders.
  • Strong football IQ and the ability to acclimate quickly to NFL offensive schemes.
  • Excellent concentration at the catch point, capable of making one-handed receptions and high-pointing the ball.
  • Natural hands-catcher with the ability to adjust to balls thrown behind him and dig out low throws.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Lacks elite speed and suddenness, limiting his ability to separate consistently.
  • Not a natural separator on vertical routes, easily covered by defensive backs downfield.
  • Inconsistent run blocker, struggles with technique and landing blocks on the move.
  • Limited YAC (yards after catch) potential due to lack of burst and elusiveness.
  • Has missed significant time due to injuries, raising durability concerns.
Scouting Report: Summary

Mitchell Evans is a dependable target with strong hands and excellent concentration, making him effective in contested catches and zone coverages. His football IQ and blocking effort are NFL-ready, but his lack of elite speed limits his separation ability.

While Evans shows promise in the passing game, his inconsistent run blocking and injury history are red flags. Durability and technique refinement are crucial for his success. Teams will closely scrutinize his medical history and blocking skills.

Evans projects as a solid mid round pick who can contribute as an in-line tight end and reliable pass-catcher. If he improves his blocking and stays healthy, he could become a versatile asset in a scheme that values physical, traditional tight ends.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
