Monaray Baldwin from Shoemaker High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Baldwin opted to join Baylor.In 2021 as a freshman Baldwin saw action in 8 games for the Bears as he made one reception for only 7 yards for an average of 7.0 yards per reception, with no TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 95.8.
As a sophomore in 2022 he played 10 games and had 33 catches for 565 yards for an average of 17.1 yards per catch, with 4 TDs, and an elite QB rating when targeted of 120.1.
As a junior in 2023 he played 12 games and hauled in 38 catches for 623 yards for an average of 16.4 yards per catch, with 4 TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 90.3.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Super athletic - Made Bruce Feldman's 2023 Freak's List at #42. He Wrote: "He hit 22.8 MPH on the GPS on a touchdown, which was the fastest a college player was clocked in-game in 2022. The 5-9, 164-pounder is also super strong, especially for that size, bench-pressing 405 pounds, squatting 550 and power-cleaning 300 pounds."
- Baldwin fights his way off the line of scrimmage against press coverage, showing quick, violent hands and good balance.
- Has rare suddenness with lightning footwork to create in tight areas with elusive shiftiness and change-of direction skills.
- He’s a fluid athlete with excellent short-area quickness; Baldwin should be able to create separation, and he has the straight-line speed to threaten down the seam.
- Baldwin also proved to be a force in catch-and-run situations. A violent runner who transitions upfield quickly after the catch, he has the speed to pick up chunks of yardage once he’s broken the first tackle.
- He’s coordinated with soft, reliable hands, and he shows the ability to adjust to balls thrown behind him, as well as a knack for digging out low throws.
- An excellent blocker on the outside, he also adds value in the running game.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Because of that small frame, Baldwin won’t be for everyone; many teams still want their No. 1 receiver to be 6'2" or taller.
- Baldwin fights hard for the ball, but he too often fights to catch it; there are too many double catches on his highlight reel. It shows up in contested-catch situations in the red zone.
- Physically, he profiles as a guy who should have success facing the quarterback, but he struggles to gear down and make the necessary sharp cuts to create separation underneath.
