Draft Profile: Bio

Cameron Ward's football journey began in West Columbia, Texas, where he played high school football at Columbia High School. Despite playing in an option-heavy offense that limited his passing attempts, Ward managed to throw for over 1,000 yards in both his junior and senior years, earning first-team all-district and honorable mention all-state honors. Incarnate Word recognized his potential, offering him his sole scholarship.

At Incarnate Word, Ward's talent blossomed. In a COVID-shortened 2020 season, he threw for 2,260 yards and 24 touchdowns in just six games, earning the Jerry Rice Award as the most outstanding freshman in the FCS. He followed this with an impressive 2021 season, amassing 4,648 yards and 47 touchdowns, leading to a transfer to Washington State.

Over two seasons with the Cougars, Ward threw for 6,966 yards and 48 touchdowns. He initially declared for the NFL Draft at the end of the 2023 season but later decided to use his remaining eligibility to transfer to Miami for the 2024 season. This decision was influenced by the opportunity to improve his draft stock and take advantage of the NIL(Name, Image, and Likeness) rules in college football.

Across his college career, Ward has thrown for nearly 15,000 yards and 119 touchdowns. His journey is marked by adaptation and growth, transitioning from a run-heavy high school offense to becoming a prolific passer at the collegiate level.

Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Exceptional flexibility and ability to throw from various angles.
  • Strong arm combined with the ability to deliver accurate throws under pressure.
  • Quick decision-maker with excellent improvisational skills.
  • Agile and elusive, making him difficult to sack.
  • Capable of mixing velocity and touch on his passes.
  • Shows good anticipation on routes and placement for run-after-catch opportunities.
  • Effective ball handler and can make throws from off-balance positions.
  • Strong presence in creating plays outside of the designed structure.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Arm strength is solid but not elite.
  • Footwork can be inconsistent, affecting throw accuracy.
  • Sometimes holds the ball too long, leading to unnecessary sacks.
  • Decision-making under pressure can be questionable, leading to turnovers.
  • Limited experience as a traditional pocket passer.
Scouting Report: Summary

Cameron Ward is a dynamic and talented quarterback whose collegiate career is marked by significant production and adaptability. His ability to make plays off-script and his unique arm talent make him a fascinating prospect for the NFL.

However, Ward's non-traditional style and inconsistency in traditional quarterbacking roles present challenges. His tendency to hold onto the ball too long and occasional lapses in decision-making under pressure need refinement.

Ward's decision to transfer to Miami for the 2024 season was a strategic move to enhance his draft stock. With another year to develop his skills and showcase his talent, he aims to solidify his position as a viable NFL prospect.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
