Draft Profile: Bio

Dillon Gabriel, hailing from Mililani High School in Hawaii, was the Gatorade High School Football Player of the Year. He set a state record with 9,948 career passing yards and 105 passing touchdowns, leading his team to the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Division 1 state championship game.

Gabriel began his college career at UCF, where he made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2019, leading the team to a 10-3 record and a bowl victory. After a stint at Oklahoma, he transferred to Oregon for his final season, where he'll be the starter for the 2024 season. Over his college career, Gabriel amassed 14,865 passing yards, 125 passing touchdowns, and 1,060 rushing yards.

In 2023 at Oklahoma, Gabriel had his best season yet, completing 266 of 384 passes for 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. He also added 373 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. His remarkable performance included a memorable Red River Rivalry win against Texas.

Gabriel's consistent production has etched his name among the greatest college quarterbacks, with numerous accolades and impressive career statistics, including being ranked fourth in NCAA history in total touchdowns and eighth in passing yards and passing touchdowns.

Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Displays outstanding competitiveness and resolve, thriving in high-pressure situations.
  • Adaptable, showing success in various offensive schemes from his freshman year onwards.
  • Can make all necessary throws, showing enough arm strength for deep passes.
  • Effective runner with notable speed and burst, adding value as a dual-threat QB.
  • Mechanically sound with a quick release, maintaining good accuracy on short throws.
  • Stands firm under pressure, delivering precise passes from the pocket.
  • Efficient in quick decision-making and processing defensive coverages.
  • Capable of making full-field reads, showing the ability to progress through multiple options.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Lacks ideal size for the quarterback position, may be a great college QB, but a limited pro
  • Arm strength is sufficient but not elite, leading to occasional inconsistencies on deep throws.
  • Footwork can be inconsistent, affecting overall accuracy and ball placement.
  • Slow to move through progressions on multi-read plays, limiting effectiveness.
  • Occasionally hesitates to anticipate routes, leading to missed opportunities.
Scouting Report: Summary

Dillon Gabriel has proven himself as a productive and resilient quarterback throughout his college career. His competitive edge, quick release, and ability to make all the necessary throws give him a solid foundation for the NFL. Gabriel's athleticism and dual-threat capabilities add an extra dimension to his game, making him a versatile option.

However, Gabriel's physical limitations, including his size and inconsistent arm strength, are concerns at the next level. His footwork and mechanics need refinement to enhance his accuracy and overall performance. His tendency to hold the ball too long and struggles with multi-read progressions could limit his effectiveness against pro defenses.

Gabriel's transfer to Oregon is expected to provide him with an opportunity to put up impressive numbers in their system, which could significantly boost his NFL draft stock. The offensive scheme at Oregon, known for its quarterback-friendly approach, should allow Gabriel to showcase his strengths and improve his overall profile.

In summary, Gabriel projects as a reliable backup quarterback with the potential for spot starts. His experience, poise under pressure, and dual-threat ability make him a valuable addition to an NFL roster. With further development and a strong performance at Oregon, Gabriel could exceed expectations, enhancing his prospects as a potential starting quarterback at the next level.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
