Draft Profile: Bio

Drew Allar's football journey began at Medina High School in Ohio, where he quickly rose to prominence as the starting quarterback by his sophomore year. By his senior season, he was honored as Mr. Football of Ohio, thanks to his impressive stats: 4,444 passing yards, 48 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and 406 rushing yards with nine scores. His outstanding high school career, and five star rating earned him offers from top programs, but he chose Penn State for its early playing opportunities and respected coaching under James Franklin.

At Penn State, Allar served as a backup in 2022 before taking over as the starter in 2023. Leading the Nittany Lions to a 10-3 record, he completed 233 of 389 passes (59.9%) for 2,631 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. Allar's TD-to-INT ratio highlighted his efficiency and decision-making skills, even in the face of inconsistent execution and receiver separation issues. His leadership and poise were key to Penn State's offensive success.

In 2023, Allar received honorable mention All-Big Ten honors and consistently performed at a high level, earning Offensive Player of the Week four times.

Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Prototypical QB frame with ideal size and bulk for the position.
  • Top-tier arm strength, capable of making all the throws with velocity.
  • Exceptional arm elasticity, able to adjust throwing angles and maintain velocity off-platform.
  • Displays good functional athleticism, maneuvering the pocket and extending plays.
  • Quick, compact release with the ability to add zip effortlessly.
  • Strong command at the line of scrimmage, adept at reading defenses and making adjustments.
  • Shows good anticipation on route breaks, delivering passes with precise timing.
  • Maintains poise under pressure, stepping up in the pocket to find downfield targets.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Limited lateral mobility due to tall frame and slight hip stiffness.
  • Inconsistent footwork, leading to accuracy issues and shoulder misalignment.
  • Struggles with deep ball placement, often missing receivers by significant margins.
  • Over-reliance on arm strength, sometimes lacking touch on short and intermediate throws.
  • Primarily a pocket passer with limited threat as a runner, not a dynamic rushing option.
Scouting Report: Summary

Drew Allar is a high-upside NFL quarterback prospect, boasting a rare combination of size, arm strength, and field command. His ability to deliver high-velocity throws from multiple platforms and his composure under duress make him a valuable asset for teams seeking a traditional pocket passer with developmental potential.

Allar's deep ball accuracy and consistency in footwork need refinement, but his raw talent and high ceiling are evident. With continued improvement in his mechanics and decision-making under pressure, he can evolve into a reliable NFL starter.

As he enters the 2025 NFL Draft cycle, Allar's performance in the upcoming season will be critical. His strong collegiate career at Penn State has provided a solid foundation, and his natural abilities suggest he could become a franchise quarterback, elevating the play of those around him.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
